Reading is for Everyone
Your Story Matters. Let’s Read It Together.
Every Story Matters
At Yakima Pride, we believe that every story, no matter how big or small, has the power to inspire, challenge, and transform. That’s why we’re committed to providing access to a diverse range of books that reflect the LGBTQ+ experiences of our community, right here in the Yakima Valley.
Your $25 Can Make a Difference
Imagine a world where every young person, no matter their identity, can see themselves reflected in the pages of a book. A world where parents and teachers can find resources to support LGBTQ+ youth. A world where everyone feels seen, heard, and understood.
By donating just $25 to our “Reading is for Everyone” initiative, you’re helping to create that world. Your contribution will help us expand our library, host educational events, and provide essential resources to our community.
How to Donate a Book:
Choose a Book: Select a book from our curated list or suggest a title by sending an email hello@yakimapride.org)
Make a Donation: Donate $25 or more to cover the cost of the book.
Add a Dedication (Optional): Personalize your donation with a dedication to a person, family, organization, or business. Please note that we reserve the right to edit dedications for clarity and length.
Why We Need Your Support
At Yakima Pride, we celebrate diversity and champion inclusivity. But for many LGBTQ+ youth, access to books that reflect their identities and experiences can be a challenge. This is especially true for books that have been targeted by bans.
That's why we're building a vibrant LGBTQ+ library – a safe space where everyone can explore stories that celebrate LGBTQ+ lives and experiences. This library will provide:
Representation: Seeing themselves reflected in books empowers LGBTQ+ youth and fosters self-acceptance.
Understanding: Inclusive stories can bridge divides and create empathy within the community.
Knowledge: Access to LGBTQ+ history and perspectives combats misinformation and promotes acceptance.
By supporting Yakima Pride’s LGBTQ+ Library, you’re not just giving access to books – you’re giving access to understanding, acceptance, and a sense of belonging.
